Iโ€™ve been seeking a fantasy book to add some magic into these cold winter days for a while, so when I gave Liars and Thieves a shot to see if I liked it, I was overjoyed to find myself immersed in the story from start to finish.

Elves, changelings, and goblins, have been living an uneasy existence, all of whom crave crystals. A Veil stands between them and their gods. When the earthquakes strike, these three races are quick to assign blame, with the three main characters โ€“ Alue (an elf), Naj (a half elf/goblin), and shapeshifter, Talin, trying to get to the bottom of these mysterious circumstances. However, what they donโ€™t realise is that something behind the Veil may be responsible, something dark and deadly. They must work together to defeat this evil, setting aside previous prejudices and assumptions along the way.

In Liars and Thieves, I was transported into a world inhabited by elves, goblins, and changelings. My favourite character was Alue. She is emotionally driven, brave, and forthright. I also thought Najโ€™s cowardly exterior, which disguised a scheming, devious mind within, was intriguing. The dialogue was sharp and well-crafted. This is a character-driven novel, the many layers unfolding as the rich fantasy world is built upon throughout.

Thereโ€™s distrust, manipulation, and intrigue, as well as underlying themes of greed and power, all of which are explored throughout the story. The plot is suspenseful and moves at a steady pace, keeping me engrossed throughout.

Iโ€™ll definitely be reading more of this authorโ€™s books in future, and am particularly looking forward to reading her new release, Tale of the Seasonsโ€™ Weaver, when its available early next year. Thereโ€™s a link to the book trailer here. Canโ€™t wait!ย ย

You can download Liars and Thieves here.

    Great choice, Ada!

    Lovely review of Diana’s book.

Being transported into a world of her imagining is a fortรฉ of Diana.

I love Diana’s books. I’ve read 2 stand alone books, and the first one from her Rose Shield series. I’ll be reading the new one and the rest of the Rose Shield series in the new year.

She’s an amazing writer, whose characters are vivid enough to draw, and I even have a crush on one. (Teko) https://artgowns.com/2023/01/14/the-necromancers-daughter-by-d-wallace-peach/

Wow, Resa! The outfit you drew for the outfit for the Queen of Blackrockย is, honestly, just breathtaking! Thanks for sending me this link to your wonderful interview and review; your artwork really adds such a special, unique touch, dusting a sprinkling of magic over everything that it irreplaceable. It’s a real gift! The fans and the detailing at the bottom of her gown are delightful touches. The fresh asters in her hair are beautiful touches, too.

This is the first book of Diana’s that I’ve read, but am looking forward to reading others, as she is so great at world-building and keeping the reader immersed, as well as making me think, as well.

Oh, and I agree about long hair on men, too ๐Ÿ˜Š (my partner has long hair and a big, bushy beard to boot!).

I do adore drawing characters from books. I need to draw men better. I’m getting better at faces, but when I attach them to a body, yikes!

I’m enjoying your reviews, Ada. You pick great books!

Haha, yes, Diana. It’s actually the opposite situation with mine; despite people sometimes suggesting that he shave it off, he always refuses! He’s had a beard for over 20 years now. It’s nice and soft though, not bristly at all (like Mr Twit’s, lol!). Yes, Resa is such a talent, as are you, Diana. So glad to be part of this happy wordpress community; it’s great!
